Portland! I honestly had no knowledge of Portland other than thinking there’s lot of trees and hipsters (yenno, guys with beards and beanies, plaid shirts walking around with day packs). I had the pleasure of coming here on a SURPRISE weekend trip with my boyfriend celebrating our 1-year-anniversary!

While Portland IS full of trees and greenery and great for the outdoor adventurer with beautiful hikes and HIPSTERS. But is also known for their coffee, beer, and donuts!

Here’s a list of CANNOT miss places to eat and drink while on your future visit to the Pacific North West.

The 2 reining coffee chains in PDX you can’t miss:

1. Coava Coffee Roasters– Coffee simply done right.

COAVA- another cold brewski

2. Stump Town– Must try the nitro cold brew! I’m not a huge coffee drinker and this was seriously silky smooth, no sugar nor creamer needed.

Stumptown Coffee- Nitro Cold Brews

3. VooDoo Doughnuts– A Portland Classic and staple. They have a lot of crazy and fun and colorful donuts!

THE ORIGINAL VOODOO DONUTS!

😛 Beautiful spinning carousel of crunchy, sweet chocolaty and fruity deliciousness. – VOODOO DONUTS

4. Blue Star Donuts- A fancier gourmet donut shop with unique flavors for the pinky’s-up foodie. My personal preference between these two predominant donut shops within Portland; the passionfruit has a hint of spice and chocolate!

Flavors: Blueberry bourbon, passionfruit, lemon poppyseed buttermilk!

5. Pok Pok- Strange that you’d find the best, most authentic thai food I have ever had within Portland! The wait was probably 30-40 minutes but well worth it and anything off the menu will not disappoint you. Their most popular dish, fish-sauce chicken wings. I love the ambiance because it’s a house turned into a restaurant; so were eating dinner in what may have been someones former living room.

5. Mother’s Bistro– Great for breakfast or brunch. I love how the wait staff have a cute little reminder on the back of their shirts “call your mother. ” A classic brunch, breakfast spot which will leave your tummy stuffed and smiling.

6. Whiskey Library / The Green Room– The Whiskey library is a pretty popular spot so expect to wait a little while until you get there. Luckily just below as you wait your table, they also have a great bar downstairs called the Green Room where we discovered a delicious Kriek Lambic Cherry beer that has now become one of our favorites.

Tip: MAKE RESERVATIONS! Whiskey Library is a popular spot. Luckily for walk-in’s the Green Room is just as enjoyable with a great choice of drinks and beautiful dark, mysterious ambiance.

7. Food Stands– They’re ubiquitous throughout the city and are pretty much within every neighborhood and on every street corner. They’re big on mediterranean and you won’t ever be short on Gyros. Also very yummy and budget friendly.

FYI/sidenote: I didn’t know GYROS was pronounced “yur-oh’s” like Year-o’s , or Euros. Anyway you pronounce it, they are bomb.com.

So MUCH foods that I didn’t get to try but will have to check out on my next visit. You definitely won’t leave Portland hungry!

-Stay Curious! and keep eating!
