“Love people, use things- because the opposite never works.”

-The Minimalists (Joshua Millburn & Ryan Nicodemus)

I’ll be the first to admit, I have used and bought “things” to try to bring me more happiness. Whether it be a new dress I bought or owning a certain brand of purse or shoe. I thought those things would bring me more status and wealth and increase my overall happiness. Maybe it did give me a quick high, but it quickly faded and the feeling just didn’t sustain. Plus half the time, I bought the thing, threw the thing in the closet, forgot about the thing with the tag still on, never having used the thing and still feeling no happier than I was before! The THINGS would pile on higher and higher, more and more. Actually, it made me MORE depressed knowing that I’ve been so wasteful.

My recent obsession with the concept of minimalism, even MORE so after watching the Netflix documentary “Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things.” And after watching this documentary, it will definitely change your world views on stuff and consumerism and will have you think twice about all the shit you own and WHY?!. A highly recommended MUST WATCH that has personally changed my perspectives on the THINGs that I own and wanting to lead a life more intentionally and simply realizing that the important things in life aren’t actually things.

I love Joshua and Ryan and also have been obsessed with their The Minimalists Podcast, which I oftentimes listen to while I’m in the car driving to work or working out at the gym (another recommended MUST LISTEN). They don’t try to brainwash you into thinking “MINIMALISM is the only and right way to live life” but they discuss the practicality behind minimalism and clarify the misconceptions and stereotypes oftentimes negative associations given to what minimalism is.

Don’t knock if before you try, or listen, or watch.

Stay curious, stay humble.
